The Center for Continuing Professional Education is proud to host both the 10th Annual Winter Conference and the 39th Annual WAAM/AEMC Wildlife and Exotic Animal Symposium together in one extraordinary weekend on March 2nd - 3rd, 2024. Join us on-site at UC Davis or virtually via Zoom for this 2-day conference. Your registration fee will include access to all 3 tracks, breakfast and lunch will be provided as well. The 3-track symposium will feature some amazing world renown speakers and UC Davis SVM faculty.

We will have two keynote addresses on Saturday. Our morning keynote address will be presented by Dean Mark Stetter DVM, DACZM. Dean Stetter serves as dean of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He oversees all aspects of the school, including education, research, the veterinary teaching hospital, centers and institutes. Previously, Dean Stetter served as dean and professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. He also served as director of animal operations, director of animal health, and clinical veterinarian with Disney’s Animal Program at Disney World. His research work has resulted in more than a hundred scientific publications and conference presentations.

Dennis Chew DVM, DACVIM will be our afternoon keynote address. Dr. Chew is a 1972 graduate of theCollege of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. He did a one-year internship at South Weymouth Veterinary Associates and a two-year residency in internal medicine and nephrology at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Most of his work in clinics, research and publications involves urology/nephrology in small animals. He has been the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and 2 editions of the Manual of Nephrology and Urology in Small Animals.

Our keynote address on Sunday will be Joanne Paul-Murphy DVM, DACZM, DACAW. Dr. Paul-Murphy is a 1982 graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, she completed a residency in zoological medicine at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. She previously served as chief of the Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service as well as director of the Richard M. Schubot Parrot Wellness and Welfare Program at the UC Davis veterinary hospital and is now Professor Emeritus. 

In addition to these speakers, UCD faculty will present information on our latest veterinary clinical trials, including:

  • Endocrine
  • Optimizing Communication in Your Practice
  • Ophthalmology

For the 39th annual wildlife sessions, our speakers will provide cutting edge information on topics such as:

  • Aquatic Invertebrate Medicine
  • Epilepsy/Neuro Disease in Marine Mammals
  • Free-Ranging Wildlife Disease Surveillance
  • Raptor Rehabilitation Cases

For the 39th annual exotics session, lectures will include:

  • Avian Respiratory Disease
  • Avian Beak Surgery
  • Clinical Update of "Yellow Fungus Disease"
Workshop: Management of Difficult Diabetes Cases: A Case-Based Approach

On Saturday, Sean Hulsebosch DVM, DACVIM and Ann Della Maggiore DVM, DACVIM will be hosting a workshop on Management of Difficult Diabetes Cases: A Case-Based Approach. This workshop will not have a webinar component and is for on-site registration only. No additional fee is necessary as this workshop is included in the registration fee. RSVP is required during on-site registration as space is limited. In this on-site workshop, we will utilize a case-based format and audience participation to discuss therapy and monitoring of diabetic cats and dogs. Tips for placement of continuous glucose monitors will be demonstrated. Interpretation of CGM results and how to adjust insulin dose and type will be reviewed. Recommendations for when to use and how to monitor cats administered SGLT2 inhibitors will be provided.

    Attendance is recorded at the lobby registration area when you arrive at the conference.
    You are responsible with signing in each day in order to receive CE credit for your participation.
    Participants are responsible for determining if specific programs are accepted for CE credit by their State Licensing Board. 
    UPDATE: You will receive your CE certificate after the conference via email approximately 2 weeks after the event.

    Attendance is recorded through the Zoom when you join a Zoom session.

    For those who attended the live webinar, you will receive your CE certificate via email approximately 2 weeks after the event.

  • The webinar will be live (Pacific Standard Time) and interactive; it will count for full CE credit. We will use Zoom to host the webinar. If you have never attended a Zoom webinar before, test your computer or mobile device here.
    You can watch the webinar on your computer. 
    Ensure your web browser is up to date and that you enable your computer to allow Zoom to access to your speakers/mic for sound.
A refund will be made, less a $35.00 processing fee, if the cancellation request is received two weeks before the program start date, otherwise, a refund will be made, less a $75.00 processing fee. Registration is non-refundable after the program start date. All requests must be made in writing. Submit cancellation request via email to svmcontinuinged@ucdavis.edu.
