On-Demand Continuing Education Course - Nutrition Lifelines - Mastering Esophageal Feeding Tube Placement and Nutritional Support in Dogs and Cats
This course is designed for Doctors of Veterinary Medicine, Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants and provides a practical overview of esophageal feeding tube use in dogs and cats, including indications, placement techniques, post-placement care, and complication prevention. It also offers a framework for creating individualized feeding plans for critically and chronically ill patients unable to meet caloric needs.
Attendees will learn how timely enteral nutrition supports recovery, preserves gut function, and improves outcomes. Key topics include nutritional assessment, diet selection, calorie calculations, and the use of commercial diets tailored to patient needs. Tips for slurry preparation, feeding techniques, and troubleshooting will also be covered.
Upon completion, participants will receive a CE certificate indicating they have earned 1 hour of on-demand self-study credit.
Instructors

Tarini Ullal DVM, DACVIM (Internal Medicine)
Dr. Tarini Ullal is a faculty veterinarian of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. She completed her internal medicine residency and two Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowships, one at Colorado State University and one at University of California, Davis. Her clinical and research interests are hepatic and gastrointestinal disease with a special interest in immune-mediated chronic hepatitis, copper hepatopathy, and esophageal disorders in dogs.

Jennifer Larsen DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM (Nutrition)
Dr. Jennifer Larsen is currently serving as the Service Chief of the Nutrition Service at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She also mentors residents and students, and teaches in the veterinary curriculum as well as for the Graduate Group of Nutritional Biology. She holds BS and MS degrees in Animal Science and a DVM from UC Davis. She attained Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition, and completed a PhD in Nutritional Biology.

Cancellations made before accessing the CANVAS platform will receive a refund minus a $5 processing fee. Cancellations are non-refundable once you have accessed the course on the CANVAS platform.
