On-Demand Continuing Education Course - Geriatric Canine and Feline Orthopedic and Neurologic Disease
This course is designed for Doctors of Veterinary Medicine, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and Veterinary Assistants. It will focus on common orthopedic and neurological disorders in older cats and dogs, emphasizing patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Special attention will be given to differentiating neurological from orthopedic gait abnormalities, followed by a curated, case-based discussion. This high-impact session is designed to help veterinary professionals elevate clinical skills and improve patient outcomes in a practical, time-efficient format.
By attending this webinar session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and assess common causes of mobility issues in senior pets, including overlapping orthopedic and neurologic signs, using practical in-clinic techniques.
- Determine when geriatric mobility cases can be managed in general practice and when referral to a specialist is warranted.
- Explore treatment options for geriatric patients, including pain management, environmental modifications, and rehabilitation strategies.
Upon completion, participants will receive a CE certificate indicating they have earned 2 hours of on-demand self-study credit.
Instructors
Vishal D. Murthy DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)
Dr. Vishal Murthy is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Davis. His research interests and areas of expertise include spinal cord injury, biomarkers of neurological disease, and education in neurosurgery and neurology.
Ming Lu DVM, MVM, MS, DACVS (Small Animal)
Dr. Ming Lu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his DVM (2015) and MVM (2018) from National Taiwan University and became a DACVS in 2024 after surgical training in Taiwan, the U.S., and Canada, including an ACVS Fellowship in Joint Replacement Surgery at UC Davis.
