On-Demand Continuing Education Course - Analgesia and Locoregional Anesthesia in Equine and Small Ruminant Species
This course is designed for Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants. Pain management in large animal species is a continually evolving area of veterinary medicine but often lags behind standards in small animal care. This discrepancy arises from several factors, including the stoic nature of prey species, physiological differences affecting drug efficacy and safety, and practical challenges in performing loco-regional techniques on large patients. This lecture will explore pain recognition and management in large animals, with a focus on horses and small ruminants. Topics will include systemic analgesic options—such as opioids and NSAIDs—and the use of loco-regional anesthesia to enhance patient safety, comfort, and overall anesthetic care.
Upon completion, participants will receive a CE certificate indicating they have earned 1 hour of on-demand self-study credit.
