Online Training Program: Backyard Poultry Extra-Label Drug Use Training Course
This course is designed for Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and will focus on the regulatory guidelines surrounding the use of antibiotics in food animals. Specifically, it will cover the rules for extra-label drug use in backyard poultry and provide valuable resources for veterinarians treating these animals.

Instructors

Lisa Tell DVM, DACZM,DABVP (Avian)
Dr. Lisa A. Tell, is the Western Regional Director for the Food Animal Residue Avoidance and Depletion Program. She has been a full-time faculty member with the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine since 1994, and currently has an appointment as a Distinguished Professor with the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology. Dr. Tell received her BS and DVM degrees from UC Davis. She did her internship and residency at the National Zoological Park in Washington, DC. From 1997-2006, Dr. Tell was the Chief of Service for the Companion Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine Service at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis. Since 2006 she has been with the Food Animal Residue Avoidance and Depletion Program. Her research program focuses on drug residue depletion and avian conservation topics.

Krysta Martin PharmD
Dr. Krysta Martin is a pharmacist specializing in veterinary practice. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of California San Diego School of Pharmacy where she participated in the veterinary pharmacy elective and clinical rotation. She also completed a residency in veterinary pharmacy from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Martin holds a position with the Food Animal Residue Avoidance and Depletion (FARAD) Program at UC Davis where she provides withholding period recommendations for food animal products to veterinarians who have utilized extra-label drug use. In addition to her position at FARAD, she also holds a position as a pharmacist at the Univeristy of California Veterinary Medical Center San Diego.
Course Cancellation and Refund Policy
Refunds for cancellations will be considered if requested by email to svmcontinuinged@ucdavis.edu within two weeks of registration. Cancellations made before accessing the CANVAS platform will receive a refund minus a $5 processing fee. Cancellations are non-refundable once you have accessed the course on the CANVAS platform.
